JBS Law Going to Indy!
Garcia-Velasquez Qualify to NFL Nats

Ivan Garcia and Rolando Velasquez downed Greenhill in a close 2-1 decision to qualify to NFL Nationals. They are the first team in JBS Law Magnet history to qualify to NFL Nationals. The tournament will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana in June.

This is the culmination of a year's worth of work.  Thanks and appreciation go out to Dustin Darby, Brian Kersch, Charlie Stephens and Zavier Wingham for providing solid assistant coaching throughout the year. We would also like to thank the staff of the JBS Law Magnet: Patricia Guerrero, Severo Perez, Rozana Rojas and Angela Taylor for chaperoning the team when we needed extra help.

Finally, we would like to thank the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance staff, Nicole Serrano and Lauren Sabino, for helping input NFL points and covering the cost of entry fees. Ivan and Rolando will not only be representing the Law Magnet, but the entire DUDA.

JBS Law Debaters Gust Thru Guyer Field

The JBS Law Magnet debate team grabbed two top finishes at the Guyer TFA qualifier this weekend.

Ivan Garcia and Rolando Velasquez knocked off the top seed in Quarters and defeated Colleyville-Heritage in the Semi's on 3-0 decision before finally splitting a 2-1 decision against Greenhill in the Finals.  Team GV finished 2nd and earned 6 TFA State points.

Kelsey Annu-Essuman broke to Quarters in VLD and won the Top Speaker Award in the division. Kelsey also earned an additional 2 TFA points, bringing her total to 5 for the year.

The novice LD'rs also competed in their first tournament and did so in the varsity division. Congratulations to Jose Garcia, Maria Herrera and Kimberly Pesina for competing for the first time.  On a special note, Maria won one of her varsity rounds!

Next week, the team competes at Plano West.
